Outcome: The wheel chair thus developed will move in the focused direction based on the muscle activity. The wheel chair is attached with two DC motors( for the movement of wheelchair ) for different conditions. As soon as the potential is sensed from the upper trapezius muscles of the neck the chair moves accordingly with flexion and lateral rotation. This system is also incorporated with the MEMS technology, and object detection system to avoid collision thereby reducing the complexity of the system. Also eliminates stair climbing contradiction.
Description: In the modern era, the movement of physically challenged people has become a tedious job therein a novel hands-free control system has been presented using EMG (Electromyography) signals, recorded from neck muscles. Using an Ag-AgCl electrode the one-dimensional continuous EMG signals are obtained, analyzed, and then translated into multi-directional control commands (forward, left, right, etc.) that are feed into the PIC microcontroller. The geared DC motor is a peripheral device which is controlled by the PIC controller. This system is also incorporated with a stair climbing mechanism which is a semi-automated vehicle that has a capability to climb the stairs easily. The system is reliable, easy to set up, and easy to use. The entire system consists of an EMG sensor, a PIC microcontroller, and a geared DC motor for the operation of the wheelchair MEMS technology is incorporated as an accelerometer device.
